• Martin Van Buren was a renowned American politician who became the eighth President of the United States from 1837 to 1841. The Albany Regency, the first political machines, was created by Martin Van Buren.
    • He was born on December 5, 1782 in Kinderhook, New York, as the son of the keeper of a tavern. His first language was Dutch and he became the only President who spoke English as his second language because of his Dutch ancestry.
