Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is a religious pilgrimage made by people from the Hindu, Buddhists, Janis, and Bon religions. They believe that trekking the 52 km path of the Kailash Mountain brings good fortune. Therefore one has to prepare well for this journey. That’s what we highlight in these seven points.
1. Be of Good Health
To take on this journey you have to be healthy. It involves a lot of trekking(25-30days), fluctuating temperatures and different oxygen levels depending on the altitude. People with high blood pressure or sugar levels are advised not to go. Ensure that your body is in top shape physically. It’s advisable to carry an oxygen cylinder.
2. Legit Documents
Different documents are required depending on which side you are coming from. You need a legal passport which has more than half a year to expiration. In most cases the tour operators deal with the paperwork at the Tibetan border, Indians are the only ones who don’t need a visa for Nepal. It is very important to have the right medical and travel insurance cover. Ensure that emergency and rescue services are included in the cover.
3. The Right Clothes
Do not carry a lot of clothes. You may never get a chance to change due to exhaustion or very low temperatures. Make sure you have inner thermals, gloves, woolen socks, monkey cap, trousers, and a raincoat. Check with your tour operator to see if they provide a bag pack, down jackets and wind catchers.
4. A Vegetarian Diet
As you prepare to embark on this journey its advisable to avoid animal meat and products milk included. Also avoid smoking, alcohol drinking and use of any other intoxicating drugs. Vegetables and fruits are recommended.
5. Emotional Stability
Refrain from anger, hatred, gossips and being judgmental. Keep the company of people who are spiritual so as to keep your energies pure. Clear all your debts and make sure you are at peace with everyone before traveling.
6. Spiritual Practice
Depending on your faith, whether you are Hindu, Buddhist, Janis or Bon indulge in spiritual practices that are related to this pilgrimage. The Hindu takes 21-40 days before traveling to meditate or chant the ‘Om Namah Shivay’ mantra, severally each day.
7. Go without Expectation
Just because you heard that visions or miracles happen to those who go, does not mean it will happen to you. Go without expectation and experience things that will happen to you. Different things happen to every individual.
