After Miami Palmetto High School he went to the University of Florida for a science training program. He received a Silver Knight Award in 1992. In 1996 he graduated from Princeton University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
2. Career before Amazon
He worked at Fitel, a financial telecommunication startup where his duty was to build a network for international trade. He got promoted to head of development and later director of the customer service. In 1988 he joined the Banker’s trust as a product manager. In 1990 he joined D.E. Shaw & Co. He was promoted to its 4th senior president.
3. Amazon
He left D.E. Shaw & Co. to start his own company. Initially, it was just an online bookstore. He named it Amazon after the Amazon River in South America.
